Money from AdSenseA lot of people, myself included on occasion, have recommended that people put Google AdSense on their site in order to make money. The main reason for this is that AdSense is the easiest possible way to make money from your site.
The problem with AdSense is that without ridiculous amounts of traffic to your site the money you can legitimately make with AdSense will be very small.
Making Money Online without Google AdSenseThere are several alternatives to Google AdSense which also put ads on your site in a similar manner to AdSense. While I haven't tested any of them I doubt they pay any better than Google does since currently Google is the most expensive PPC (Pay-Per-Click advertiser) engine.
Other Options for Making Money Online
There are options for making money online without Google AdSense. Keep in mind that these other methods all require significantly more effort than simply adding AdSense code to your blog. The primary options are:
- Affiliate Marketing (getting a commision from the sale of someone else's product)
- Marketing your own product
- CPA (Cost-Per-Action - where you can get paid for leads and sales)
- With traffic you can get paid review gigs and such but I'm sure that comes later for most everyone reading this right now.
Affiliate marketing typically requires a website. Sending traffic directly via links in forums, blogs, etc are free but that is almost impossible to pull off today. It's also really kind of spam like since the affiliate links are almost always to a sales page rather than an info page on the vendor's site.
Once you've created your website - which can be as simple as a few pages - then you need to drive traffic to it. This can be done through PPC (this can get expensive) and SEO. SEO involves building backlinks to your site at various blogs and forums.
You can read my thoughts on my arguments against Affiliate Marketing without website here.
Your Own Product
Creating your own product is not as hard as you might think. However, until you are fairly successful I don't see any reason to do so. First, you can promote someone else's product for up to a 75% commision and they get the customer support headaches.
If you really want to promote your own product you can create or find a free lancer to create it for you. I haven't done this yet but I've read that you can get a free lancer for as little as $50. I think you may even be able to get an eBook for less but you probably get what you pay for so be aware that you will likely need to rewrite any eBook you get cheap.
You can also join membership sites that provide you with products to sell. The products require some rework so you aren't selling the same eBook as 1000 other people but much of this can be done in a day or less.
CPA is the hottest thing running right now in the "make money online" world. However, it is an easy way to lose your shirt as I've personally found out. You have to know what you are doing. You need a very thorough understanding of PPC and the rules before you get started. And frankly a lot of the most successful people are doing unethical and even illegal things to generate their sales.
According to the 2 courses I've taken on CPA, the best converting webpages are fake blogs and fake review sites. In essence an internet marketer creates a page with a fake story on it about how some weight loss or teeth whitening product turned their life around. Many argue this isn't unethical because it's telling a story and it's "marketing" not mislieading. I strongly disagree.
To make real money in CPA you need to drive sales not just leads. So most of the affiliate marketing skills and tactics apply.click here

10. Once Upon a Time in the West (1969)Logline: A southern belle, Mrs. McBain, moves to the far West Frontier to join her family. Upon arrival, though, she finds discovers all were ruthlessly murdered; she has to rely on perfect strangers (outlaws and nomads) to protect her and find her family’s killer.
Memorable Moments: Frank (a ruthless outlaw) sexually harasses Jill (Claudia Cardinale). He tells her that she can’t even the resist the advances (having been informed that she was previously a hooker in New Orleans) of the very man who murdered her husband.
Why People Love It: Once Upon a Time isn’t just your de facto Western flick: Rather, a Western thoroughly blended with metaphor, style, and—perhaps—poetic justice that could be easily deemed A Hot Mess.
Best Quote: Frank (Henry Fonda): “How can you trust a man who wears both a belt and suspenders? The man can’t even trust his own pants”
9. Goodfellas (1990)Logline: Henry Hill (Ray Liotta) enters the Italian mob and, as he grows older, rises through the ranks with Jimmy Conway (Robert De Niro) and Tommy De Vito (Joe Pesci) until one day, the whole criminal enterprise (as well as Henry’s life) starts to crumble.
Memorable Moments: With Henry Hill narrating, the corpses of several mafia figures (mostly linked to the Lufthansa heist) are paraded in a musical montage.
Why People Love It: An epic film, especially among mob-movie fanatics, that digs deep into the rise and fall of gangster Henry Hill, Goodfellas is the quintessential mafia movie that makes absolutely no excuses for itself and glorifies nothing about the seedy, brutal underworld of the Italian mob.
Best Quote: Jimmy Conway (De Niro): “I’m not mad, I’m proud of you. You took your first pinch like a man and you learn two great things in your life. Look at me, never rat on your friends and always keep your mouth shut.”
8. The Godfather: Part II (1974)Logline: A sort of “prequel and sequel” hybrid, The Godfather II chronicles Vito’s early life in the fledgling 20th-century, as well as his son Michael’s (Al Pacino) assumption of power and attempts at expanding the family enterprise in the 50′s.
Memorable Moments: At the club, Michael grabs Fredo, “kisses” him and spills the beans: “I knew it was you, Fredo…you broke my heart…..you broke my heart!” Some time later, Fredo is faithfully executed by an assassin, hired by Michael.
Why People Love It: Very few sequels enjoy the luxury of being deemed just as good as the first. The Godfather II is almost universally considered one of those.
Best Quote: Michael Corleone (Al Pacino): “Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer.”
7. Seven Samurai (1954)Logline: When a poor farming community is terrorized by bandits, seven former samurai take up arms to defend it. In exchange for defending it and teaching the locals self defense, the village people feed the samurai.
Memorable Moments: Rice, which a farmer had harvested for the samurai, was stolen from under the farmer responsible for it; sobbing as he picks up leftover grains, Kikuchiyo (Toshiro Mifune) throws him money to purchase more.
Why People Love It: You don’t even need an interest in martial arts to appreciate this masterpiece. Seven Samurai is laden with phenomenal action sequences, unforgettable characters, and a timeless story.
Best Quote: Kanbe Shimada (Takashi Shimura): “Danger always strikes when everything seems fine.”
6. Inception (2010)
Logline: Cobb (Leo Dicaprio) is one of the most specialized thieves in the world; that is, he enters others’ minds through their subconscious (dreams) and sells their secrets to the highest bidder. But soon, Cobb and his team must carry out one of the most unfathomable missions ever, Inception.
Memorable Moments: From the scene pictured above, Arthur (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) fights others in a gravity-defying, spinning hallway—’falling’ to the ceiling, walking on walls, and kicking a** mid-air.
Why People Love It: Inception’s premise—intruding into the unconscious mind, which seemingly allows all rules of reality and logic to disappear—is refreshingly original and its plot, nothing short of brilliant.
Best Quote: Yusuf (Dileep Rao): “That many dreams within dreams is too unstable!”
5. The Dark Knight (2008)
Logline: Batman (Christian Bale) collaborates with Harvey Dent and Lieutenant Gordan to rid Gotham’s streets of organized crime. While initially successful, the trio must now face their most formidable opponent yet: The Joker (Heath Ledger) and minions.
Memorable Moments: Either the phenomenal explosion scene (where The Joker merrily skips off), the jailhouse interrogation scene, or the hospital scene when he visits the horribly-burned Harvey Dent, who subsequently becomes Two-Face.
Why People Love It: The lion’s share of Batman enthusiasts agree that The Dark Knight is the best Batman film to-date (and probably ever), thanks in large to an unquestionably great performance by the late (RIP) Heath Ledger.
Best Quote: Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart): “The night is darkest just before the dawn. And I promise you, the dawn is coming.” |Or| The Joker: “Why so serious?”
4. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966)Logline: Three men—Blondie/’The Good’ (Clint Eastwood), Tuco/’The Ugly’, and Angel Eyes/’The Bad’—learn of a mysterious grave, rumored to be full of gold, in a remote cemetery. It soon becomes apparent, though, that it will be every man for himself in the quest to find this grave.
Memorable Moments: Near the end when Blondie, Tuco, and Angel Eyes find themselves in a three-way duel, and Tuco realizes that Blondie had secretly unloaded his revolver the prior night.
Why People Love It: Maybe it’s one of the most memorable Western titles ever, or the utter irony of the title itself? Or perhaps because it stars gun-slingin’ Clint Eastwood in one of his best roles ever?
Best Quote: Blondie: “You see, in this world there’s two kinds of people, my friend: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig.”
3. Schindler’s List (1993)Logline: Nazi-occupied Poland: Businessman Oskar Schindler wasn’t initially the loving, humanitarian-type—instead, a savvy profiteer. But witnessing the systematic brutalization of fellow Jews, Schindler (perhaps the most unlikely candidate for ‘hero’) opens his heart and factory to provide over a thousand Jews refuge from Nazis.
Memorable Moments: Amon Goeth (Ralph Fiennes)—a merciless, wicked Nazi commandant—”falls for” his Jewish maid. After almost raping her, he realizes that even kissing her would be high treason, Goeth delivers a savage beating to her for “seducing” him.
Why People Love It: Schindler’s List symbolizes the love and humanity that each and every one of us is capable of having, despite all of our (possibly) innate/instinctual tendencies toward self-interest, greed, and even having the capacity for murder.
Best Quote: Itzhak Stern (Ben Kingsley): “It’s Hebrew, it’s from the Talmud. It says, Whoever saves one life, saves the world entire.”
2. The Shawshank Redemption (1994)Logline: The Shawshank Redemption, possibly the greatest movie of both Freeman’s (“Red”) and Robbin’s (Andy) careers (make that one of the best movies overall, ever), is an epic tale of two gentlemanly, intellectual prisoners who show remarkable courage and sustain hope against almost all odds of ever getting out of the joint for their old crimes.
Memorable Moments: The epic scene where a just-released, elderly man (James Whitmore)—isolated in his humble New York apartment and missing his ‘home’ in prison (basically, the only life he’d known for decades) —kicks the chair from underneath his feet and hangs himself.
Why People Love It: Directed by Frank Darabont/written by Stephen King, it symbolizes our struggle between the demons that imprison us (quite literally here) and the hope for better-days-to-come—which is all we really have to cling to in the end.
Best Quote: Andy Dufresne (Robbins): “Get busy living, or get busy dying”
1. The Godfather (1972)Logline: Vito Corleone, Don of the Corleone crime empire, assumed the helm of the fledgling family ‘business’ in the 1920′s and for almost forty years, built it into a dynasty of wiseguys and ruthless henchmen that would make Al Capone’s gang look like clergymen. Decades later, though, he must pass the reigns of his empire to a reluctant Son, Michael Corleone.
Memorable Moments: One of the biggest turning points is when Michael Corleone, whose hands are free of anyone’s blood, murders the corrupt policeman (McCluskey) and wiseguy Sollozzo from a rival family.
Why People Love It: People and critics generally swear by Godfather franchise whenever one of these lists pops up. Plus, how can you dismiss a flick that’s received Oscar after Oscar after Oscar? Performances are second to none (ever), the riveting score is perfect in all senses, there’s nearly flawless editing, and the scenery is fantasticly well-suited.

The best extensions feel like built-in browser features, which is the case withGoogle Dictionary. Once the extension's installed, double-click on a word to see an instant pop-up definition (with a link for further information) -- find out exactly what "cornucopia" means without interrupting your browsing. Alternatively, you can also look up a word by clicking on the extension icon in the toolbar.
2. Buffer for Chrome
If you're new to Buffer, it spreads out your tweets over a predetermined schedule, so your followers aren't overloaded. It's not suitable for time-sensitive tweets (complaining about the latest episode of Homelandperhaps), but it's perfect for queueing up links and such like. The Chrome extension works flawlessly, composing and buffering your tweet in a couple of mouse clicks.
3. Chrome to Phone
If you're using an Android phone or tablet, you can use the Chrome to Phone extension to quickly send links and other content to your mobile device, either via the right-click menu or the extension icon. You'll also need to install the Chrome to Phone app on your Android device, where you can choose whether to open up links automatically.
4. Google Calendar
Google has extensions for just about all of its multitude of products and services, but the Google Calendar one is worth a look -- not only does it provide an at-a-glance overview of your upcoming events, it can also recognise when a webpage contains an event (such as a Facebook page) and enables you to add the event to your calendar with a single click.
5. Evernote Web Clipper
Keeping bookmarks and starred tweets is all well and good, but Evernotelets you create a fully fledged interactive scrapbook of all the interesting material you find on the Web. This is one of the official extensions, which enables you to quickly add content to your Evernote account ready for sorting out later. You'll need to register an account at first.
6. Awesome Screenshot
Get past the over-the-top name and Awesome Screenshot is a very useful screenshot tool that manages to be both packed with features and easy to use. It's possible to add annotations, capture entire webpages (even when they are only partially visible), share pictures quickly via the internet, and more. Images can be saved locally, uploaded or copied to the clipboard as required.
7. TinEye Reverse Image Search
If you're looking for a bigger version of a certain image or want to find out where a picture originated from, then TinEye can help -- this reverse image search takes your source picture and looks for other matching instances of it on the Web. There's no icon added to the Chrome interface, just an extra option on the right-click context menu.
Take more control over what your PC and your browser knows about you with Click&Clean -- the extension can help you erase your browsing history, edit your privacy settings, remove tabs based by domain, view cached video files, and more. It also links to some of Chrome's less well-known areas, such as the built-in Task Manager.
9. TooManyTabs for Chrome
Tabbed browsing means we're all surfing the Web faster and more efficiently than ever before, but if you often find yourself lost in a forest of open tabs, use TooManyTabs to better manage them. Click the extension icon to see a list of all available links, which you can then filter based on file type or keyword. The downloads themselves are handled by Chrome's built-in download manager.
Banish adverts, sidebar videos and other on-screen junk with Readability -- click the extension icon to see a clean, clear version of the article you're currently viewing. The extension works without a Readability account, though if you sign up for one you can also save articles for later reading. The extension can send articles to your Kindle device too.
Gmail is getting better at adding contact info alongside emails, butRapportive is still streets ahead. Pull in data from Twitter, LinkedIn and other social networks to make the right-hand contact pane much more useful. The extension works seamlessly in the background, requires little in the way of configuration and soon feels like a native part of Gmail.
13. Last.fm scrobbler
Last.fm's various desktop clients and integrated tools do a decent job of tracking your listening history, but what about the tunes you're hearing on the wilds of the Web? If you want to log these tracks too, install the Last.fm scrobbler extension, which can pick up songs on YouTube, MySpace, Deezer and many other streaming websites.
14. Send to Kindle
If you happen to have joined the eReading revolution, then the Send to Kindle extension will definitely be of interest -- transfer webpages and articles to your portable device with most of the unwanted extras stripped out along the way. The extension has been tweaked to work well with a wide range of sites, including Wikipedia, Quora, Google Reader, MetaFilter and others.
15. AddThis -- Share & Bookmark
Does a webpage exist if it hasn't been shared on a social media network? If you're eager to share your latest online find with as many of your contacts as possible, AddThis makes it easy. It's tightly integrated with the big two (Facebook and Twitter) and supports many more services besides -- it can even work with Gmail and Instapaper.
Based around content from Radioplayer, the official UK hub for over 300 online stations, Radioplayer pops up in a new window and lets you listen to the football commentary or enjoy the biggest hits of the 80s while you browse. Additional content underneath the playback bar, from information about the current show to further reading on the Web, varies from station to station.
17. Lookup Companion for Wikipedia
Opening a new tab for Wikipedia-ing purposes is old hat -- use this streamlined extension instead and avoid having to leave the page you're on. Recent lookups are saved for future reference, and you can browse forwards and backwards in the extension window, which displays the mobile version of Wikipedia pages to make them as compact as possible.
18. Dr.Web Anti-Virus Link Checker
Chrome has plenty of nifty security features built in, but Dr.Web Anti-Virus Link Checker adds another useful one without slowing down the program or your browsing. Once installed, the extension lets you scan links before you visit them, just in case your group of friends and family has a tendency to pass on a lot of virus-filled URLs.
19. Extensions Manager
Finally, an extension to help you better manage your extensions, as well as the themes and apps you've installed within Google Chrome's walls.Extensions Manager filter through outdated or disabled extensions and toggle their status with a single click, and access the options page for any installed extension. Google would do well to incorporate the ideas here into Chrome itself.
20. timeStats beta
Want to know where you've spent all your time on the Web? Are you absolutely sure? timeStats beta sits quietly in the toolbar logging everything that you do and then brings up a sleek-looking pie chart visualising just how much time you've spent on Twitter. Follow the Additional link to see an even more detailed breakdown of the places you've been.

Update: Don't forget - now you can subscribe to our Firefox Addons Collection thanks to Mozilla!
My affinity for Firefox comes as much from the fantastic community of addon developers as it does from the program itself. Now, I'm sure you will have heard of some of these before: good Firefox addons tend to spread like wildfire. I hope I've managed to include some that you might have missed.
I've ranked just over a dozen addons that I find to be particularly useful - even to more casual Firefox users.
1. Cybersearch - Customizable Google searches in my Awesome Bar? Yes, please! It also supports keywords so you can enter things like "ds firefox addons" and limit your search to a specific web site (like Downloadsquad, for example). Enter a comma separated list of URLs to search a group of sites.
2. LastPass - I used to use KeePass, but I just like LastPass better. It did a great job of importing (and then removing) my Firefox stored passwords, and its secure password creation tool makes using different passwords on new sites a snap. The web interface is a great way to manage my logins and groups.
3. FEBE - As with anything else on your computer, it's never a bad idea to back up your Firefox install. FEBE will back up everything - extensions, themes, bookmarks - or just what you choose, and you can set up an automated schedule. It's also got integrated Box.net support, which is actually a fairly nice way to roll-you-rown manual Firefox syncing.
4. AdBlock Plus. I don't really use AdBlock because I hate advertisements, but because I don't like waiting for web pages to load. Flash ads and multiple banners really gum up the works, so I depend on AdBlock to keep things running smoothly. It's also a decent way to cut back on your bandwidth usage.
5. DownThemAll - When a friend first showed me DTA a few years ago, I couldn't believe I was still just using FF2's built-in manager. DTA rocks, and would definitely make my Top 5. It's simply one of the best download managers out there.
6. OpenItOnline - I don't do enough work with Office-type documents anymore to warrant installing a suite on my laptop. OpenItOnline lets me send DOC, XLS, and all the other supported file types to ZohoViewer for perusal instead of downloading them. It supports all Zoho and Google Docs apps to open files.
7. Deng Google Bookmarks - I'm not sold on Weave yet, so for now I let Google store my bookmarks. I switched to the Deng addon after using GMarks for the longest time - because I got tired of the giant "bookmark" button on my toolbar. Deng displays only a small star icon, and its management interface is superior.
8. Screengrab! - To quickly capture an entire web page, Screengrab is a great tool. It can save or copy an entire page, the visible portion, or a rectangular selection. If I don't actually need to print a page, Screengrab is an easy, environmentally friendly way for me to keep a copy of it.
9. HP Smart Web Printing - When I do need to print, HP's addon gives me the option to combine multiple web pages on one sheet of paper, eliminate elements I don't need to print, and it even allows saving to PDF. Always nice to see the big boys release something great for free.
10. Web Of Trust - WOT is a great way to keep yourself out of malware trouble. I think I'm a pretty responsible surfer, but I don't know the reputation of every site on the Internet. WOT gives you a heads up about the trustworthiness of a link (based on community input) before you visit it.
11. Shareaholic - Anyone that enjoys sharing links would do well to install this one: it supports a ton of services, including Digg, Delicious, Twitter, Pownce, Reddit, Facebook, MySpace, and Google. It's also a quick way to see how many Diggs or Delicious bookmarks a page has received. Bzzster support gives quick access to sharing items via email.
12. Pingfire - Another must for the social surfer. Ping.fm's multiple-site update service is rad, and Pingfire kicks it up a notch. No need to even visit Ping, just add the Pingfire icon to your toolbar and update your microblog and status sites with ultimate ease.
13. Tab Kit - It's got a whole slew of options for tab management: grouping, coloring, sorting, protection, mouse rocker and scroll wheel support, and many, many others.
14. Yet Another Smooth Scrolling - Firefox's default scrolling isn't quite as refined as I like it, so I use YASS to tweak things until they're just right. It supports up to three presets, which is nice for laptops. Keep one set for your touchpad and one for your mouse.
